Mental Skills + Game IQ

Athletic Development

The on-ice portion of the program is designed to teach, refine, and progress individual hockey skills that directly impact game performance. Athletes will focus on building strong technical foundations while learning how to apply each skill effectively in real game situations.

The on-ice portion of the program is designed to teach, refine, and progress individual hockey skills that directly impact game performance. Athletes will focus on building strong technical foundations while learning how to apply each skill effectively in real game situations.


Athletes are coached not only on how to perform a skill, but also on when, why, and how to use it within the flow of the game. Emphasis is placed on transferring skill work from isolated drills into competitive, game-like environments so athletes can execute with confidence at speed and under pressure.


Skill development sessions are structured to challenge athletes while supporting long-term growth, decision-making, and adaptability.

On-ice skill development focuses include:


  • Stride development (forward and backward skating)
  • Acceleration and first-step quickness
  • Change of direction and edge control
  • Agility and movement efficiency
  • Puck control and handling at speed
  • Shooting technique and shot selection
  • Evasiveness and deception in game situations

The off-ice portion of the program is designed to build strong, powerful, agile, and resilient athletes, with direct carryover to on-ice performance. 


Training emphasizes movement quality, strength, and speed while reducing injury risk and supporting long-term development.

  • Movement mechanics and technique
  • Core strength, balance, and body control
  • Mobility and range of motion
  • Strength, power, and speed development
  • Conditioning to support game demands

Mental Skills + Game IQ

This portion of the program focuses on mental preparation, decision-making, and reading the game. 


Athletes will learn how to apply their technical skills with intent — choosing the right option at the right time to benefit both themselves and their team in real game situations.

Athletes will develop their game IQ by:


  • Executing skills at gam

This portion of the program focuses on mental preparation, decision-making, and reading the game. 


Athletes will learn how to apply their technical skills with intent — choosing the right option at the right time to benefit both themselves and their team in real game situations.

Athletes will develop their game IQ by:


  • Executing skills at game speed within purposeful small-area games and constraints-based drills
  • Recognizing and discussing options in common game scenarios — offensively and defensively (e.g., 2v2, 2v1, 1v0)
  • Improving decision-making under pressure, including spacing, timing, and puck/player support
  • Building situational awareness, learning when to attack, defend, or support based on context
